At SONGA we are aware that sustainable development does not consist in producing less, but in doing so with responsibility, improving the quality of life and taking care of natural resources, contributing to guarantee an adequate quality of life for present and future generations.

In the “Sociedad Nacional de Galapagos” we are not only responsible for maintaining the best environmental conditions around our processing plant, but also for the water from tributaries and effluents that we use in them.

The collection of water for its processes is obtained from the Guayas River, through a pumping system that prevents contamination of the river at all times. Once the water in the packing plant is used, it goes through a high-tech treatment system that guarantees the return of the water to the river, complying with the requirements of the Ecuadorian Environmental Authority and our global certifications.

New Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)

In 2021 we installed the new and modern wastewater plant, which separates the solids and impurities from the water that leaves the plant after the process in order to return it to the ecosystem. The plant includes a reverse osmosis equipment which makes the treated water drinkable and allows us to recirculate it.

In this way we contribute significantly to the maintenance of the natural ecosystem of the Guayas River and the Gulf of Guayaquil, which is the most important hydrographic basin of the Ecuadorian coast, thus allowing the natural processes that occur in it to be maintained over time, ensuring in this way the quality of the water for the processing, and that the communities that live on the banks as well as the citizens in general can make use of the Supply Services they generate (such as artisanal fishing, transportation, etc.), as well as Cultural Services it offers (tourism, education, culture, etc.) .
